What are Crowns made of?
Crowns are made of a variety of materials, and new materials are continually being introduced. Here are some of the options available at present:
Porcelain Bonded to Precious Metal -- This is what the majority of crowns are made from. A precious metal base is made and porcelain is then applied in layers over it.
Porcelain -- These crowns are not as strong as bonded crowns but they can look very natural and are most often used for front teeth.
Porcelain and Composite -- Porcelain and composite resin materials can sometimes look the most natural. However, these crowns are not as strong as bonded metal crowns.
Glass -- These crowns look very natural and are used on both front and back teeth.
Precious Metal (Gold and Palladium) -- These crowns are very strong and hard-wearing, but are usually used at the back of the mouth, where they are not visible.

Orthodontics Melbourne: Do Braces Hurt?
Orthodontics Melbourne: Do Braces Hurt? I think most of the questions asked when getting braces for teeth "do wearing braces hurt?".
The answers always varies, and depends on the type of braces you are wearing. Mostly, the traditional metal braces hurt specially the first time of usage , and there will be discomfort on your mouth, you can't eat properly, you will always take notice on your mouth, and also during the adjustments. But don't worry you will be accustomed in wearing braces and you'll feel nothing at all - just like no braces at all.
But nowadays, there are types of braces less irritating - less annoying, and less painful.
So, make sure that you choose the right braces with the help of the dental experts; dentist or orthodontist.

Braces Melbourne: What You Should Know About Getting Braces
Braces Melbourne: What You Should Know About Getting Dental Braces
I have gathered here information from other websites online about getting braces for teeth. To learn more about braces, you may click the source link and it will bring you to the original page where the article is taken.
What are braces?
Related answer: Dental braces (also known as orthodontic braces, or simply braces) are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help to position them with regard to a person's bite, while also working to improve dental health. They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, cross bites, open bites, deep bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw. Braces can be either cosmetic or structural. Dental braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws and to otherwise assist in shaping the teeth and jaws. What are the different types of dental braces?
Related answer: Brackets are a small square or round attachment placed on each tooth during specific stages of orthodontic treatment and are commonly known as braces.
What are the benefits of getting braces?
Related answer: There are a host of good reasons for investing in a healthier, straighter smile. Uneven teeth will affect the ability to bite, chew and speak properly. On top of this, unhealthy gums and teeth usually go hand in hand with teeth that aren’t straight. Other health problems, such as a clicking jaw, can also result from teeth not being quite where they should be. Then there is the psychological impact of having once crooked teeth straightened out. A perfectly aligned, gleaming grin can boost self-esteem levels and turn a once reserved individual into the life and soul of the party.
How much braces cost in Australia? In Australia, the fee for orthodontic treatment involving upper and lower braces varies from $4500 to $8000 or more.
Related answer: 2500 ish when I got mine.. on top of that you pay for the tightening, adjustments and plate etc. Overall it was probably about $5000 for 18 months but that was 10 years ago.
Related answer: I'm not sure but it may depend on where you live. I'm from Melbourne, and a lot of my friends braces cost about $4500 in total. There is also a lot of variation between different orthodontists (my braces cost $6000 in total). This cost may vary between different states.
How long does the orthodontic treatment take?
This depends on the extent of the problem. Every patient is different, with differing needs and this is discussed at the initial consultation. The orthodontist will draw up a treatment plan that can range from several weeks to 3 years or so.

Dr Roger Hammond Orthodontist Northside
Dr Roger Hammond, Northside Orthodontics
Wouldn't it be nice to go to work to make people smile? It is a rare privilege to not just make people smile but create that smile. And it is the creation of these smiles and the relationships that develop with my patients that keep me keen to do what I do daily.
At Northside Orthodontics, I am very fortunate to have the amazing support and collegiality of my orthodontic partner, Steve, with whom I studied then went on to establish the practice. While we treat our patients individually, we work together to assess patients, finesse our procedures and critique our results. All of this would not be possible without our fantastic workmates who are the collective
engine of Northside Orthodontics.
After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1989 with a degree in dentistry, I moved to Armidale then Byron Bay. I gained invaluable experience treating the whole range of dental conditions in all ages and stages of life. I also took the opportunity to travel and have some great life experiences.
Ten years after graduating as a dentist, I was offered a position to study as a specialist in Orthodontics. I returned to full time study and was awarded a Masters of Dental Science (Orthodontics) from the University of Sydney in 2001 and my thesis on sleep apnoea devices was subsequently published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. I enjoy all aspects of orthodontic treatment from primary school kids to those that are way older than me!

Even as a dental student, I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a Specialist Orthodontist In this field, I get to meet, befriend and help so many different patients by tailoring treatment to their individual needs and concerns. I enjoy the intricate work associated with brace treatment and love the look of absolute joy on my patient's faces and their new found confidence in their new smile when the brace comes off. It's like they are smiling for the first time! I am also a self-confessed gadget geek and with the different types of braces I offer, I relish the challenges and find Orthodontics exciting and rewarding in so many ways.
I studied dentistry at The University of Birmingham, School of Dentistry, UK and graduated BDS in 1998. I then went onto General Dental Practice in Nottinghamshire, followed by Oral Surgery Hospital jobs in Nottinghamshire and Sheffield during which time I passed my Entrance examination into Specialist training, MDFS RCPS in 2001.I then went to work in the Birmingham Dental hospital and Children's Hospital and subsequently got in to the very competitive 3 year Full-time Orthodontic Specialist training program in 2002.
During my three years, I treated hundreds of patients, both adults and children and was rewarded an MPhil Ortho in 2005 and worked as Locum Consultant at Worcester and Kidderminster Hospital for a while. I then worked mostly in Private Practice, until my wife and I saw the (sun) light and moved to Perth 2009.
I have been published and was a Prize-winner at the World Orthodontic Conference in 2005. I now create beautiful smiles on all ages.
Having moved to Perth, my wife and I now live in Fremantle and love the beach and outdoor lifestyle here. When not working, I enjoy running (still trying to reduce my half time marathon time), cycling and various snow sports. I am a big EPL fan, especially Arsenal, although Perth Glory runs a close second!

Braces are not just about aesthetics; they play a crucial role in maintaining and improving oral health. Here are some key benefits:

- Traditional Metal Braces: The most common type, known for their effectiveness in treating a wide range of dental issues.
- Ceramic Braces: Similar to metal braces but with tooth-colored or clear brackets that are less noticeable.
- Lingual Braces: Placed on the back of the teeth, making them virtually invisible from the front.
- Clear Aligners: Removable, transparent trays that gradually shift teeth into place. Popular brands include Invisalign.
Choosing the Right Orthodontist in Strathfield
Selecting the right orthodontist is a critical step in your braces journey. Here are some tips to help you make an informed decision:
1. Qualifications and Experience
Look for an orthodontist with the proper qualifications and experience. They should be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO).

Check online reviews and ask for testimonials from previous patients. Positive feedback and personal recommendations can provide valuable insights into the quality of care you can expect.
3. Range of Services
Ensure the orthodontist offers a comprehensive range of services, including different types of braces and modern orthodontic treatments. This ensures you have options tailored to your specific needs.
4. Technology and Techniques
